The Vagabond Pâtisserie & Café

"Baking delectable delicacies require an uncompromising attitude, unbelievable craftmanship and unwavering passion for perfection. At The Vagabond, we believe and follow these principles in every aspect of our operation."

ABOUT

Since 2015, The Vagabond Bakery & Coffee has grown to become Saigon’s premier choice for gourmet gifts, baking with artisanal spirit and the finest ingredients. We aim to develop recipes for the bakery and sweets line combining West and East ingredients, delivery was also being developed during this period. We successfully opened the shop in the 100 years old house at 9 Tran Cao Van, Da Kao Ward, District 1 and quickly capture the attention of cake lovers, and also the media in 2019.

Review

Located on a quiet street, Vagabond has an antique vibe of a hundred years-old house with a mystic entrance full of beautiful greenery. The eclectic interior style is a mixture of French country design and rustic vintage furniture, carrying a calm and cozy atmosphere. It gives a feeling of escaping from Saigon's hustling life to a serene bakery store. As for sweets, we ordered Amorist and Millecrepe Avocado cake. As much appealing as they looked, they tasted amazing. Amorist had an interesting texture, combining the crunchiness from dark chocolate crumbles and the creaminess from pistachio ganache. Meanwhile, Millecrepe Avocado was decadent; each crepe's layer was delicately smooth with the strong flavour of avocado. Regarding drinks, we both ordered cashew milk with two different flavours which are guava-passionfruit and Nipa Palm sauteed in Thnot sugar - a familiar ingredient used in many Vietnamese dessert recipes. The drink was a little sweet but compelling with a touch of creative ingredients and flavours.

Which elements impress us?

We loved the Vagabond’s concept and its origin story since the quality of the dessert speaks for itself. We can feel that a lot of passion is pouring into mastering the art of baking. We definitely want to become their loyal customer and try all cakes on the menu

Which elements could be improved?

Some cakes on the menu are sold out before the closing time, so make sure that you ask the staff which options are available at that moment. Other than that, we were quite satisfied with our desserts.
