Making great use of an iconic location, Saigon’s old “Manufacture d’Opium” (1881), The Refinery was built, designed and decorated locally with custom made furniture and lighting in the greatest Paris bistro tradition. A French Brasserie and Wine Bar tucked away in a secluded courtyard, The Refinery offers a large covered outdoor terrace with comfy armchairs to relax the day away as well as a beautiful interior with many original architectural features.

The refinery is located in the iconic alley on the busy Hai Ba Trung street, which used to be Saigon's old Manufacture d'Opium. We instantly fell in love with a Parisian-inspired outdoor terrace under the crimson roof. The open space's atmosphere was nice, while the interior design exquisitely presents the French bistro theme from floral floor tiles and the arched wall to the french-colonial styled paintings. The staff was professional and attentive; especially the manager was amicable, welcoming us to take pictures inside the restaurant. We ordered three different courses from the vegetarian menu. The eggplant dish was delicious; the cooked spinach was wrapped with thin eggplant pieces in delicate tomato sauce. As for the potato gratin, we liked its creamy texture and well-seasoned sauce on top. The last dish was baba ghanoush, beautifully presented with edible flowers. It was quite plain, though; we would expect it to be more tasteful.

This is an ideal place for people who adore the French culture, and its culinary like us. Whether it's outdoor or inside, we really enjoy the atmosphere and ambience. The restaurant has its own vegetarian menu, but you need to require it. The food was quite good in general.
We think the baba ghanoush needs more seasoning.
