La Villa French Restaurant

"La Villa in Ho Chi Minh City, it is a little bit the French Riviera at your doors"

ABOUT

La Villa began as a concept. A place where Chef Thierry would no longer be bound by the limitations of 5-star hotels or high-end restaurants, where he’d previously worked. It would be a creative space to explore French gastronomy at his own pace, in an environment designed to facilitate the best of what excellent ingredients could offer. Always fascinated by Asia, Thierry found himself as F&B Director at a resort in Phan Thiet, an ultra-luxury boutique resort. There he met Tina, his future wife, who was working there at the time. When they moved to Saigon, Thierry found the opportunity to do what would have been nearly impossible in France due to costs: purchase a beautiful villa and shape it into one of Vietnam’s most professional and experienced fine dining restaurants. La Villa has found incredible success after years of rigorous staff training and unrestrained exploration of French fine cuisine.

Review

La villa French restaurant is a family business owned by French Chef Thierry and his wife Mrs Tina since 2015. The restaurant indeed operates in a beautiful white “la villa", with 1980s French-inspired design and well-organized exterior in green surroundings. We love the classic white tone with a distinctive touch of vintage wrought iron furniture and Vietnamese oil lamps. However, we’re uninspired by strange old-schooled lighting effects, especially the pool area. The staff is super professional and attentive to our needs; carefully giving us information of each course before serving us. They have a tailored menu for special diets like vegetarian, but you need to notice them 1 day in advance if you come with vegan guests. For an appetizer, I had small pieces in one dish - tomato juice, egg, savoury mini pies. Everything went well with each other and it was very pleasant. The Chef salad was fresh, delight and well-presented; including many nutritious ingredients: green leaves, eggs, mushrooms, cheese and tomatoes. I had Truffle ravioli for the main course; the dish was creamy and rich in truffle flavoured. We had herbal tea and a rack of mini pastries for desserts; they were deliciously sweet and lovely as they look.

Which elements impress us?

Apart from the beautiful classic white villa and its vintage settings, we love the staff's professional attitude along with refined dining service. They have an intensive wine menu and tailored food menu for vegetarians and vegans if requested in advance. We loved every course; its taste and presentation were dedicated and delectable.

Which elements could be improved?

We think warmer toned outdoor lights would be a better option for the current lighting setting and exterior design harmony. We have no complaints for the food.
